Can Google Business Profile Replace a Website?
For most businesses, no. A profile works like a useful storefront sign, but it cannot do the job of a full business website. The two points below explain where it falls short and when a profile-only start is still acceptable.
Where a Google Business Profile Falls Short
A Google Business Profile has structured fields and a layout governed by Google's policies. It cannot provide the same flexibility as a dedicated website with detailed service pages, a content library and a customised enquiry process. Google discontinued its website-building feature that generated basic websites from Business Profile information. Those websites became unavailable in March 2024, and visitors were initially redirected to the associated Business Profile. Businesses that need a dedicated website must use a separate website platform, such as WordPress, Wix or Shopify.
When a Profile-Only Start Is Acceptable
A very small walk-in business can begin with a profile alone while a website is planned, because the listing is free and quick to set up. Treat that as a temporary stage, then add a website so customers have somewhere to learn more, compare services and send an enquiry.
